   Unfortunately, the Marine Corps has its share of nincompoops, and Joshua Belile is a fine example of this. Frankly, as a former Marine, myself, I find his song disgusting and thoughtless much as the Abu-Grieb photos. He is an embarrassment to the Marine Corps and all decent Americans. What is the problem with such people? Such actions cost lives and further dirties our already-badly-soiled reputation abroad.

   Frankly, having never served in the Corps, I don’t see how former service has any bearing on this matter, but I thank you anyway.

   Comparing a song such as this to the photos at Abu Ghraib is just as breathless and hysterical as those on the Interwebz comparing it to Nazi Germany. They are NOT the same thing. Abu Ghraib was bad, though not as bad as the beheadings that happened at the same time, though they were compared as well. The comparison is sensational and groundless. For one, no one is involved here. Your brain might be trying to make this song and Haditha one and the same, but they are not. Clue check time.

   He is an embarrassment to the Marine Corps and all decent Americans.

   I’m going to disagree. He is a veteran of a foreign war who served honorably. A song will not detract from that. A song, I might add, that didn’t even portray the Marine (Belile? someone else?) acting dishonorably! He was fired upon by civilians waiting in ambush and he reacted, killing them. Is that situation not in accordance with the ROE? Or would you rather he have been killed instead of taking out the “hadjis”?

   What is the problem with them? Nothing. Stress? What is the problem with Trey Parker and Matt Stone? The problem with Seth Green? The problem with Carlos Mencia, Dane Cook, Louis Black, Penn & Teller? What are their problems? They all do the same thing as Belile - they entertain. Listen to the background of the video, listen to the LYRICS instead of getting all bent out of shape over nothing. The Marines loved it because they live it, just like some people find Louis Black’s anti-Bush schtick funny though I personally can’t stand him. To each their own.

   Such actions cost lives and further dirties our already-badly-soiled reputation abroad.

   I’m sorry, but if you are so naive as to think that the lyrics of an obscure song, posted to the internet, that probably 100,000 people have seen, and maybe double that will ever see, is going to have any modicum of an effect of OIF, then you drastically overestimate the power of internet culture. The only thing that would do as you say would have been Belile executing a woman (which isn’t what happened in the song) before he starts singing at the USO show.

    I can’t understand what the hell the uproar is all about? So a young Marine wrote a ballet about an Iraqi girl! Songs and Limericks have been a way to blow of the horrors of war since medieval times. If anyone finds the song offensive I suggest they pack their bags and go to a combat zone!

    FYI, I have been in a combat zone and it doesn’t change my mind one bit about this knucklehead and his ill-advised song. You see, Major, Marines have a higher standard to live up to.

    I’m proud to have viewed this while in Iraq in November the video was already making its rounds, it relieved tension and gave everyone a hell of a laugh, get over it

    if you don’t like it, don’t watch the damn video or listen to the damn song! if it offends you, turn it off. this is an option that we all have. i have to agree with danny about the rap culture. there’s something wrong with a song that talks about self defense, but nothing wrong with killing cops in cold blood while high on drugs???? think about this.

    Get off of his back. I think our men are doing a good job and a little dark humor goes with this kind of work they are tasked to do. Whether they should or should not be there is not their call. Theirs is a job to do. My little sister was in the first one over there and my brother and I both served. Untill you have walked a mile in their shoes, don’t judge them.

    for download. This video should not be offensive to anyone. If someone doesn’t like then don’t watch it. But unless you’ve been in the military and know what its like to put your life on the line for people you have never met you shouldn’t criticize.

    Dammit if C.A.I.R. isn’t making US policy now. Our military is working with their hands tied behind their backs because Bush and his buddies want to control oil so bad they are willing to let our finest men and women die for it. That is what you should be criticizing about this war. And yes, I’m prior service.

    As I look over the responses re the lyrics to this song, I’m dismayed to read so many “why-should-I-give-a-damn-if-I-offend-anyone” attitudes expressed. And these are the offspring of the folks I risked my life to defend 50 years ago? Pity.
    I can hardly wait for the responses to the above: “get over it”, “deal with it”, “move if you don’t like it,” etc. My message to you is “spare me.”

    Great song, it’s just a song so I don’t see why everyone is getting so offended. I’d imagine humour is one of the few things keeping you guys going over in Iraq, so keep it up.

    I am still serving in the Marines. All Marines would agree that we have been given a bad name over the years. But to be honest why should we care. We know as Marines half of this is due to bad journalism and publicity. Any chance they can get to show the public the bad things we have done instead of the good. Thats life though. Why should it matter. Marines are still and always will be Marines and they will continue to uphold our traditions and standards. Who cares what the public thinks about this song. Its most important purpose is Morale. Thats something everyone whos ever been over there needs.
