pdb asks “What’s In YOUR Manpurse?”
First off, it’s not a manpurse. It’s a highly tacticool messenger bag. The only one like it in the world, in fact, thanks to Extreme Gear Labs. :p
Yeah, it’s a manpurse.
Anyhow, here’s an interior shot of the bag and it’s uber cool divider. It also came with a holster and mag pouch, but I don’t use those on a daily basis.
This is the bag as I carry it everyday. It’s got a certain “Spartan” flair, I find. There is usually a Camelbak bottle clipped onto a ‘biner on the outside (you can barely see it) for my typical H2O loadout.
Inside, we’ll find a plethora of goodies. Let’s take a look, shall we!
On the far left, that black lump is a waterproof windbreaker. The smaller black thing is a skull cap. These two things are more for “aw fuck I have to walk in the rain” than a more dire emergency, but I keep them there all the time.
Next to the windbreaker is the bulk of my first aid supplies - Celox, kerlix, a burn gel-pad, Ace bandages, gauze pads, etc. There is also a bottle of NewSkin, Excedrin, electrolyte tabs, water purification tabs, alcohol wipes, latex gloves and a couple tampons not pictured. Did you laugh at the tampons? Ghost wouldn’t laugh - they’re apparently great for bullet wounds, and coupled with the Celox and gauze pads, I can treat myself and up to two others.
Below that is a Pelican case. I’ll go over the contents in a minute. There is a Surefire spares carrier for four quick batteries, a Spyderco Endura, a SOG multitool, a Pelican M6 LED light, a Motorola FRS radio and a GPS. I’ve also got a handful of Cyalume lights, a couple of Powerbars and Powergels and a couple of Umph caffeine tabs to go in the Nalgene if needed. That’s more for a hunkered down type of situation. A pair of Southwest Motorsports gloves, a few zipties, duct tape and paracord are also present. The knife up top is a Becker Combat Utility - 7″ of carbon steel with an exposed tang - you can pry with it, smash glass with it or slice and dice with it. It’s the only thing in the kit that is marginal as far as legality goes, but I don’t think I’ll get into too much trouble.
In the Pelican case, I have ten more CR123 batteries and a half dozen for the GPS and radio. There is also a Petzl Tikka headlamp, a couple books of matches and (yup) a cigar. If I get the chance to stick the Becker into a shooter and save the day, the news is going to catch a picture of me puffing on a stogie.
And that’s pretty much it. If I had a pry bar and maybe some collapsing bolt cutters, it’d be about perfect. I think. For a walking kit bag, it’s fairly light, so I have to excuse to not have it. In an earthquake or a zombie outbreak or an active shooter situation, I’ve got the basics. Really, I’d like to have my armor and XD on me at all times, tucked into the bag, but that’s not in the cards. Actually, I may throw a IIIA lopro vest in - I’ve got the room, and I do work at a school.
So, comments or suggestions? Did I miss anything or should I pare it down? What say ye…
